Although his first television show was not successful, Asher went on to direct more than a dozen television shows. A few of his successes include: Here’s Boomer (1974), Fireball 500 (1979), and Dinah Shore Show.

During the late 1950s, he met actress Elizabeth Montgomery and eventually married her. They became a team, working on various projects for many years. However, when Montgomery became pregnant, she wanted to quit. She later died of cancer in 1995.
